August 10

Sorry that I haven't posted for a while, but I've been sick. Now I'm getting over it, but my older brother is sick!

My little brother had a birthday two days ago, on the 8th. I got him a huge, rainbow umbrella. I didn't realise just how big it was until I saw it stretched out, but it really is huge!

My little brother and sister and I have rediscovered one of our old favorite TV shows: Recess! My little brother doesn't really remember it that well, but my sister and I do, and we are loving watching it all again. It always amazes me what you can find on YouTube.

It is really windy here. The guinea pigs don't seem to mind that much, but I do. Whenever I go outside, I freeze!

May 9

I can't blog tomorrow. We'll be out all day, and we won't get back until late. In other news, one of our guinea pigs is dying, while her brother keeps escaping his cage. Mixed news indeed!

May 7

Today's a holiday! Yay! I don't know why it's a holiday, but I'll enjoy it anyway.

Last night, to celebrate that we wouldn't have to get up early this morning, we watched both Scooby Doo movies, with all the lights out. Only my brothers lasted through both movies. My mother fell asleep near the start of the second movie.I fell asleep partway through that movie, still wearing my glasses! My sister fell asleep later in the movie. I suppose my brothers didn't really last through both movies, because they turned the movie off when they realised that they were the only ones still awake. We watched the end of it this morning.

My mother is giving the guinea pigs their worm treatment. They don't really like it. Some of them fight it, and some of them dribble it all down their fronts. One of the guinea pigs will just swallow it all down, without dripping. I think she might secretly like it.

April 22

My sister's birthday party was yesterday, and it was so cool! First we played all sorts of games with our baby piggies, like making them go through tunnels, and under obstacles, and racing them against each other. They weren't very good at it, but they looked so cute that it didn't matter. After that we went on SingStar. The boys didn't like that as much as the girls did.

This morning, our youth bible study was on, even though I didn't think it was. That was really fun. Soon, we'll have a room all to ourselves, to do our study in.

I thought I'd have heaps to write, but I don't. My sister is singing really loudly in our bedroom. My older brother is playing a computer game beside me, and my little brother is out in the backyard doing who knows what. My mother is relaxing with a book.

One final really cool thing: MY BLOG NOW HAS TEN FOLLOWERS!!

March 27

In the last 24 hours I have somehow acquired 2 new followers. Thanks so much!

I love it when my computer is slow, and I type something on the screen but it takes a little while for it all to come up. It is so much fun to watch what I type come up on the keyboard as though I was typing, when I've taken my hands off the keyboard!

I'm a bit mad at the moment because I got a C on an assignment I thought I should get a B for. For me, a C is an entirely unacceptable mark. I expect better of myself than that.

I totally forgot to mention this, but 2 baby guinea pigs were born on Saturday, to the guinea pigs I look after. They are really cute, but we haven't come up with names for them yet. If I post some pictures, will you come up with ideas? We're kind of stuck.

My little brother is playing with a blow up football. He's throwing it all over the place, even trying to step on it. He's acting like it's some kind of alien life form that he's trying to catch.

I'm so looking forward to the holidays. I'd love to be able to stay in bed for hours, playing on my iPad. I probably can't though, for two reasons. Firstly, there's breakfast. I'd be too hungry to stay in bed for hours. Secondly, guinea pigs. Guinea pigs don't take holidays. They need to be fed every day of the year.

Maybe I can bribe my older brother into feeding my piggies one morning. There's no point bribing my sister, she sleeps for too long, and my little brother doesn't like going in the side yard, where my piggies are. The grass is too long there for his liking.

Today's miracle is incredibly cool. I would be absolutely terrified in her situation. Probably a good thing it wasn't me then!

The Shoes I'm Glad I Forgot
by Elizabeth Sherrill

Of all the times to have the airline lose my luggage! It was only my toiletries case with my one pair of good shoes, but of all places to wind up without them!
I'd flown out to New Mexico for a one day seminar sponsored by the Southwest Christian Writers' Association. "No one will care about your shoes," Margaret Cheasebro, the group's president assured me.
Undoubtedly, Margaret was right, but of all times... Even as I thought it, a phrase from our church's communion service came to mind: "we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee."At all times? I wondered.
At the seminar's close, several writers came up to the stand. Suddenly there was an ear-splitting crack and the sound of exploding glass. A woman shouted "Lie down! Everyone!"
Through the window she had seen a man brandishing a gun. Later we learned that he had been drinking and shooting at telephone poles. From the wall behind the speaker's stand, the police recovered the tip of an electric screwdiver fired from a muzzle loading pistol.
While Margaret filled out a police report, the rest of us relived our escape, each recalling a step forward or a second's delay that had kept her out of the line of fire.
For my part, I traced a trajectory from the window to the wall, an inch over the spot where I had been standing. I was thinking of a pair of two-and-a-half-inch heels in a missing bag. I echoed an ancient prayer: "we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee."

Definitely something to be thankful for! God is so totally amazing. He controls all circumstances, and though we may not see why at the time, He has a reason. Even if you never know the reason, it's still there.

As my older brother just (un)enthusiastically reminded me, we get to go square dancing tonight! I like square dancing. It's awesome fun.

My little brother just claimed he doesn't have faults. SO not true. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23 NIV) My little brother is no exception, whether or not he thinks he is.

March 7

Both my brothers are feeling sick. The rest of us are fine, however. My younger brother was still very eager to go to the library earlier today,  so he's obviously not too bad.

We did go to the library earlier today, and it was cool! I always love going to a different library. They have different books there. I found 12 books I wanted to borrow, not realising that I only had space for one book on my card! The way cards work at our library is that you are supposed to able to borrow 20 books. However, the machines will let you borrow 40 books, in case you have the strange habit of returning 20 books, then getting another 20 books before the system realises that you have returned some. So, back to today, and I had 39 books on my card, and tried to borrow another 12! Fortunately, my mother let me put some books on her card, otherwise I might have had To go home without any new books. Tragic, indeed!

My older brother and my sister are washing the guinea pigs. They are getting a bit dirty (the guinea pigs, though my brother and sister probably are too!), and need a wash. I'm (rather selfishly) hoping I won't have to help. I don't really like getting assorted yuckness off guinea pig hair. Who would?

Our English assignment should be done soon, and then this silent barrier may be lifted, and I can talk to my brother about it. I like talking to my brother about schoolwork. We are in the same grade this year, which has never happened before now, so I want to make the most of it.

One final thing: do you think the song Friends Forever is sad? I definitely do, but my mother doesn't, to such an extent that she can't see why I do!

March 5

I still cannot get used to the idea that it is March, at least when I am blogging. I keep writing February by mistake.

I am writing on the family computer, but I'm getting better at it. My laptop is still being slow. I love my laptop, but I would like it to be faster. Eventually, I'll save up enough to get myself a new one.

It waas absolutely pouring this morning. We all got soaked, as we were out all morning. Then we get back, and the rain stops completely. Really annoying!

I got my new glasses today! They are purple, with a pretty design on the side. My older brother says I look much more serious wearing them. They are a lot darker than my previous bright blue glasses. This will be my first pair of metal glasses for about 3 years. I've only been wearing glasses for approximately 5 years.

We sold Angel and her siblings today. I'll miss her, but she's so pretty, she'll find a good home, and probably find a boyfriend too. We also sold her loudmouth cousin, Thunder. That's definitely a good thing. Now he won't squeal at me every time I go near him. He's always hungry, and always loud about it.

It's getting colder here. You can tell it's Autumn. It's wet, cold and cloudy. If this weather keeps up, we won't go square dancing tomorrow night!

February 27

We are back today, and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I got a lot done, and I enjoy that.

My older brother is giving my younger  brother computer game advice. I love seeing such camaraderie between my brothers.

Usually my sister washes our guinea pigs, but today I washed a few, and I was in no way envious. Guinea pigs that have been living in rain for a week aren't usually noticed for their good looks...or smells. In future, I should help out more, because it's not fair for my sister to do it all herself, but I can't say I'll enjoy it. Quality time with our guinea pigs might help though...they are really cute when they're small.

February 22

We did go square dancing last night, and my mother did make vegetable soup. It had lots of purple potatoes in it, so it was a really dark purple and thick. It was delicious.

The sunset last night was really amazing, after the storms we had. I got some great photos. Some of these photos were taken of the east, and they still look amazing!

I really like all these photos. They are just so glorious.

I also got some photos of Angel, who is much bigger know. She is definitely a girl, and a beautiful one too.
Isn't she gorgeous! She is my favorite of all the recent babies. Thunder is equally gorgeous, but way too loud, so he cannot be a favorite. But the Angel is mostly quiet, entirely gorgeous, and going to be sold in a few weeks. That's OK. Babies are never as cute when they grow up. Angel will, to me, be forever a baby.

February 20

I'm getting new glasses next week! I haven't had new glasses for a while, so I'm starting to need them. They are going to be purplish, with a nice pattern on the side. They are patterned, and metal, so I'm slightly worried I'll break them. I've broken all the metal pairs of glasses I've had before now, so I now wear plastic ones, and sometimes I break those too! I haven't broken a pair for almost a year, so hopefully these new ones will be fine. Once, my little brother broke a pair of my glasses by accidentally standing on the nose piece...while I was wearing them!

My sister is on the keyboard. She didn't have her keyboard lesson today, because her teacher is on holidays. She did have her singing lesson though.

We sold three little babies today. We still have five at home, three little girls and two little boys. One of our boys is Thunder, who is much louder then thunder should be. Thunder isn't meant to be that loud, or that high pitched.

My sister and I got a whole lot of clothes yesterday from a friend. Now my sister looks really different. She's tall, so it makes her look more grown up, and (shock and horror) teenage! If I call her that, she'll get mad at me.

Tomorrow is square dancing again. Woo hoo! I hope it's as much fun this time as last. It should be. Everyone was great last time, why not this time?

February 14 (Valentine's Day)

Firstly, Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all enjoy/ed it.

Wouldn't you love to be a tech whiz, and be able to hack computers and do all sorts of stuff like that? I don't think I ever will be, but I think it would be so cool. One day I want to be able to design websites, but that, though really cool, isn't quite tech whiz level.

My sister is on the keyboard. She is not playing carols, but actually seems to playing something really gloomy. I don't know it. It sounds really nice though.

My little brother is a maniac in training. He's on Mathletics, and talking about himself in the third person, narrating his competitions. It is so funny! He's got the whole crowd, aka himself with different voices, cheering him on. With support like that, how could he lose?

I didn't get any Valentines today, and I couldn't even wear red or pink, because it's my policy to always wear a blue polo shirt on Tuesdays. Tuesdays we volunteer at the library, so I like to wear polo shirts then, and blue is my favorite.

We'll have to sell some of our baby guinea pigs soon. Truth, Salvation and Gideon are almost old enough, and by Friday they will be. I'm pretty sure they will be sold next Monday. Even though they will soon be gone, at least we will have the rest of the babies, until they too have to be sold.

February 13

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. What am I going to do? Probably wear red or pink, and leave it at that. I don't know what else I would do.

Yesterday was incredibly hot and muggy, today was hot, yet now it is storming. Why can't the weather make sense, and do one thing at a time? It's uncomfortable feeding the guinea pigs in the rain. My guinea pigs are the furthest away, so I have to spend the most time in the rain.

We've been out all day, a lot of it because of my sister. She has both singing lessons and keyboard lessons, and is good at both. It takes up a lot of time though.

The other big reason we were out today is because it is our grandpa's birthday, so we took the hour long drive up the coast to say Happy Birthday, and bring a cake. The cake was delicious!

One thing I didn't mention over the weekend is that my brother's have switched bunks! My little brother now sleeps on the top bunk, and my older brother has the bottom bunk. It made sense, because my older brother stays up later, and now he doesn't have to climb the ladder and possibly wake up my little brother.

I was reading about Brother Andrew today, a guy who smuggled Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Some of the stuff he did was amazing. Like, in line at a checkpost one time, he noticed how thorough the search was. It usually took up to an hour, and could involve pulling all the stuffing out of the seats to make sure there was nothing hidden there. Yet somehow, he was through it in under 30 seconds, even with a pile of Bibles in open view in the passenger seat. God can do the most amazing things!

More Baby Piggies

These are our absolutely beautiful baby piggies. They're a little dirty at the moment, but are still very cute. Thunder is black, as black as a thundercloud, and Lightning is brown, with a small white patch that looked a lot more like a lightning strike when he was a newborn. Thunder is bigger then Lightning, and they are both bigger than the 4 babies that were born a few days before these two were.

January 30

Today was another of those days that seem to be shadowing me. Nothing much happened, but it was a good day. I got plenty done, but none of it was extraordinary, and often wasn't even interesting. Tomorrow our teachers come around, to get a writing piece, and talk with us. Scary! On the plus side, they're bringing more books! That's always a good thing.

My little brother, sister, mother and I read/acted some of Pride and Prejudice this afternoon. We each chose a part, and played it out. We usually had to change parts at the end of a chapter, but it was still an interesting activity. I'm the only one who has read the whole book, although my sister read some of it last year, so I was the main reader, as in, I was narrating.

My little brother is in the backyard, as it has finally stopped raining, and has even mostly been clear today. Unfortunately, that means we will probably have to change guinea pig houses this afternoon, and that's a really smelly job, especially after rain.

I actually haven't posted pictures of Thunder and Lightning, at least not that I can recall, so I'll go take some photos, and be back soon to post them.

January 25

Finally, the rain has stopped enough for me to go out and take photos of our newest baby piggies. There are four of them, and they are really cute. My favorite is Angel, who has the most beautiful and unique colours of all our guinea pigs.  From the top is Teddy (affectionately nicknamed Tiny Teddy), Cadbury,  Marble, and Angel.  The one at the very bottom is also Angel.

January 23

For our first day back at school, did it have to be so rainy?! It's been steadily raining since mid-morning, and I'm tired of it. One of our guinea pigs had babies today, and I haven't been able to take photos, or even see them again because of all this rain.

My little brother is practising his harmonica. He got a new one for Christmas, to replace his old broken one, and I think he's enjoying it. My sister is on the keyboard at the same time, and they don't harmonize at all. They don't clash too badly, but they certainly don't harmonize! Now he's right behind me, staring at the rain while playing his harmonica. Maybe it inspires him. He can't actually play a song on it, but he makes up interesting melodies, that I kind of like.

The summer holidays are over, and so is the Summer Reading Competition at our library. I can't wait for them to announce a winner, but so far they haven't. I'm probably too impatient, but there isn't a specified date I can wait for, so impatience is inevitable.

My older brother has disappeared again. I'd like to know what he actually does in his room for hours on end, but I know what he doesn't do. His computer is sitting here beside me, so he's not on that, though I suspect he might be before long. I think maybe he's tidying the room he shares with my little brother. My little brother is a very adept hoarder, and keeps things that you wouldn't believe.

I'll try to get some baby piggy photos on my blog soon, maybe even later today. The rain is starting to slow, so it might not be long.

January 14

We go off on holidays again tomorrow. We left all out guinea pigs with friends, including our 3 new babies (!), and 2 pregnant girls.

From being so hot earlier this week, now it's kind of cold. It's only 4:58, and it's already cool outside.

My sister and I found a new game online. Secret Builders. It's really fun. We spent hours on there, changing avatars and chatting. It was interesting.

Baby Guinea Pigs!!

Of our 10 guinea pigs, 2 are my special responsibility, Fudge and Noble. Today, Fudgie had 3 babies!!! The top one is going to be called Truth, for his belt (of truth). The middle one is going to be called Gideon, for the horn on his head. The one on the bottom will be Salvation, because he has no hair at the very top of his head, so it's like he's wearing a helmet (of salvation). They are so gorgeous!! We won't know whether they are boys or girls until they are about 3 weeks old. They'll probably be sold at 6 weeks. But until then, we have 3 cute and cuddly babies!

December 24/ Christmas Eve!

My younger brother and sister are already heading to our grandpa's place, and my mother, older brother and I are here at home, and will be leaving after feeding the piggies. Just 1 more sleep til Christmas! I'm too excited and impatient to write much. Merry Christmas, and A Happy New Year!

Friday, 23 December 2011

December 23

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. AAAAAH! I don't want it to come that fast, and yet, I do. I want to open all the presents under the tree, and watch everyone else open theirs. So I guess, I do want Christmas to come. It's just that it's coming faster than I thought.

My mother, sister and I had a girls afternoon yesterday. They painted their nails, and then we put on crazy makeup. My sister and I had never pained our nails before, and I still haven't. My sister looks unusual with bright pink nails, especially when playing the keyboard.

My older brother just accidentally whacked my younger brother in the eye, so he may have a black eye for Christmas! Hopefully not.

My brothers and sister are washing our guinea pigs. We have quite a few. I'm pretty sure we have 10. They get kind of dirty in the rain, and it was raining last night when we were looking at Christmas lights. They need washing, and their houses need cleaning and re-haying.

I have beaten my sister, at least temporarily, in the token competition I wrote about yesterday, . I have 45 hours, 50 minutes worth of reading, and 2 reviews, bringing me up to 11 tokens. My sister has 43 hours, 20 minutes worth of reading, and 1 review, so she only has 9 tokens. My older brother has 2 tokens, for 11 hours, 30 minutes worth of reading, and my little brother hasn't read at all, so he has no tokens. We are getting the tokens so that we can win an I-Pad, except my little brother is in the running for an iPod touch, being younger. The more we read and review, the more tokens we get, the more chances to win an iPad!

I may not be able to blog tomorrow, as my siblings are leaving at 10, and my mother and I are leaving at 3 to go to our grandpa's place for Christmas. If I can write tomorrow, it'll be the last post of the year. If I can't,  this is.

So, I wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
