February 29

It's a nice day outside. Blue sky, not too hot, but not cold, a few clouds gently drifting along, yet for some reason I'm sitting here at my computer. All I can say is, I'm not an outdoors person.

Tomorrow, we head into the city so my sister can get the colours on her braces changed. She hasn't decided what colours yet. While we are in the city, we are also going to the Sciencentre to check out the new display, 'Whodunnit?'. We'll get to do all sorts of interesting things, like compare tire tracks, dust for fingerprints, and *GROSS ALERT* examining maggots on a security guard's corpse.

Tomorrow we will also get to go to the Brisbane library. That means more books, and probably a heavy backpack all the way home from all the books I pick up. I have real trouble not borrowing a book when I find it. Sometimes it's reasonably easy, sometimes I just have to put every cool book I find in my backpack. That always means a very heavy backpack.

Last night we went square dancing again, and it was still fun. I'm getting the hang of some of the moves now, so it gets easier. I can't say it gets more fun though, because it was already so fun to start with!

February 28

My sister is on the keyboard. She seems to be humming something under her breath, but I'm not sure. It might just be the rhythm to the song she's playing.

Why are so many books written by Americans? My little brother asked for peanut butter and jelly today. He didn't say jam, he said jelly! Jelly is wobbly, meant as a dessert. That's what jelly means to me. Jam goes with peanut butter. Jelly and peanut butter would taste gross!

Is it weird to like to go back and look at all the things I've written? I keep a diary, and sometimes I like to go back and read it, to see what I was thinking about years ago. A lot of it doesn't seem that long ago. It just seems to be a matter of months, maybe even weeks, not years.

Tomorrow is February 29. We won't get another one for four years, so enjoy it while you can, especially if it's your birthday!

My Little Brother Says...

My little brother just claimed that he doesn't have hair on his head, he has leftover hamburgers! For some reason, he thinks that's better that having hair. Don't ask me why...

February 27

We are back today, and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I got a lot done, and I enjoy that.

My older brother is giving my younger  brother computer game advice. I love seeing such camaraderie between my brothers.

Usually my sister washes our guinea pigs, but today I washed a few, and I was in no way envious. Guinea pigs that have been living in rain for a week aren't usually noticed for their good looks...or smells. In future, I should help out more, because it's not fair for my sister to do it all herself, but I can't say I'll enjoy it. Quality time with our guinea pigs might help though...they are really cute when they're small.

February 26

How could the weekend be almost over already? Once again, I won't write much, because I want to make the most of every second. I know there will be another weekend next week, but I won't get as much computer time then, so I want to make the most of every moment I can get now. Who knows what might happen next week (except God, of course)?

February 25

I don't want to write much now. I'm reading a story on the internet, so I want as much time as I can possibly have before it gets too dark. We did not go to Dreamworld today, due to a severe weather warning. The weather today was hot and rainy, the worst possible combination. Bye!

February 24

I am completely convinced that you can find anything on the internet, if you know where and how to look. I love searching some of my favorite things on the internet, and reading what other people have to say about them. I think it is so cool, and it makes me think about things in a different light.

Do you ever do something way too much, and then start thinking like that? I have recently had the weird experience of typing my thoughts on a mental computer. I can't touch type, and if you asked me where the keys are on a keyboard, I wouldn't really know, but somehow, I can find them without any trouble in my head. Also, if I've been reading a particular book for a while, sometimes I can still see certain passages from it when I close my eyes. It's kind of cool, and kind of weird.

It is drizzling steadily here. It'll probably be cold tonight.

February 23

I'm starting to get tired of saying that nothing has happened, but not much has. Last night my mother made the most gorgeous chocolate cake, with chocolate sauce just dripping out of it. It tasted fantastic. She's not sure if she can do it again, but I hope she can, because I think it would be the best birthday cake ever!

My sister showed me a new way to tie my hair. It looks really nice, and a bit old fashioned, but still really stylish. She is more creative than I am. I wouldn't experiment with my hair, because I wouldn't want to get it all tangled. She doesn't mind.

Tomorrow is Youth Group, and the day after my dad is taking us to Dreamworld, without my little brother, so we can ride all the scary rides he doesn't like. Rides with such attractive names as The Claw, Tower of Terror II,The Giant Drop, Buzzsaw and Wipeout. Don't they sound like fun! My little brother hardly ever agrees to go on a scary ride, but once he's been on, he loves it. Unfortunately, we won't have enough time on Saturday to persuade my little brother on every ride, so he can't come. We are hoping, however, that by the end of the year, he will have been on all the rides, especially the scary ones. We've already made a start, by getting him on thrill rides at White Water World, but water rides aren't as scary.

February 22

We did go square dancing last night, and my mother did make vegetable soup. It had lots of purple potatoes in it, so it was a really dark purple and thick. It was delicious.

The sunset last night was really amazing, after the storms we had. I got some great photos. Some of these photos were taken of the east, and they still look amazing!

I really like all these photos. They are just so glorious.

I also got some photos of Angel, who is much bigger know. She is definitely a girl, and a beautiful one too.
Isn't she gorgeous! She is my favorite of all the recent babies. Thunder is equally gorgeous, but way too loud, so he cannot be a favorite. But the Angel is mostly quiet, entirely gorgeous, and going to be sold in a few weeks. That's OK. Babies are never as cute when they grow up. Angel will, to me, be forever a baby.

February 21

We may not be going square dancing tonight, as my brother is feeling sick, and my mother is tired. I'd like to, but I realise that a good night's sleep is important, and therefore staying out late dancing might not be the best idea.

Today wasn't been a very interesting day. I just worked all day, and we went to the library and went shopping this afternoon. I don't think that classifies as exciting. Square dancing would make today interesting, but as we may not be able to go tonight, that may not be able to count.

My mother may be making vegetable soup for tea! That would be delicious.

My brother has just come out with the strange idea that reading isn't fun. What else could reading possibly qualify as? Of course reading is fun! Reading is fun, educational, entertaining, interesting, and almost anything you can think of. It depends on what you read, how you read, when you read, and where you read. For example, reading by torchlight under the covers at night pretty much has to be fun. Why would you do it otherwise?

February 20

I'm getting new glasses next week! I haven't had new glasses for a while, so I'm starting to need them. They are going to be purplish, with a nice pattern on the side. They are patterned, and metal, so I'm slightly worried I'll break them. I've broken all the metal pairs of glasses I've had before now, so I now wear plastic ones, and sometimes I break those too! I haven't broken a pair for almost a year, so hopefully these new ones will be fine. Once, my little brother broke a pair of my glasses by accidentally standing on the nose piece...while I was wearing them!

My sister is on the keyboard. She didn't have her keyboard lesson today, because her teacher is on holidays. She did have her singing lesson though.

We sold three little babies today. We still have five at home, three little girls and two little boys. One of our boys is Thunder, who is much louder then thunder should be. Thunder isn't meant to be that loud, or that high pitched.

My sister and I got a whole lot of clothes yesterday from a friend. Now my sister looks really different. She's tall, so it makes her look more grown up, and (shock and horror) teenage! If I call her that, she'll get mad at me.

Tomorrow is square dancing again. Woo hoo! I hope it's as much fun this time as last. It should be. Everyone was great last time, why not this time?

February 19

I am so so so hot. It is really hot here. At three, it was 37 degrees. It was about as hot yesterday, when we were at Dreamworld and White Water World. I got sunburnt on one side of my neck, and it really hurt. The rides were fun though. Most of us went on 7 rides at Dreamworld, and even  my little brother went on some of the thrill rides. He wouldn't go on one of the rollercoasters though, so he only went on 6 rides. My favorite of the day was the Reef Diver. On that ride they spin you at 60km/h, then they raise you in the air until you are spinning round vertically, and even go upside down! That ride wasn't at all crowded, so we all went solo. White Water World was good too. I loved the Hydro Coaster! Huge queues, but it was worth it. We had 9 rides together,, but my older brother skipped on one of the rides, and instead rode the Wedgie twice. Therefore, he had 10 rides. We finished by going over to the Temple of Huey and Little Rippers. Altogether, there are five rides there that you can ride either single or double. It was getting late by then, although we didn't know it, so the queues were practically non existent. I rode 2 rides solo, then I was my little brother's tube carrier for another four rides. It was awesome, going on so many rides! Then, we all gathered, and started getting our stuff. One of the staff actually asked which exit we would be leaving by, it was so late! When we got to the car we found out it was 5:30.

All up, the number of rides we went on was:
My dad: 23
My older brother: 22
Me: 22
My sister: 23
My little brother: 21

That is A LOT of rides.

February 17

My sister is sitting right beside me, so I'm going to have to be careful what I write. She could look over my shoulder and see my writing something, and then tease me about it for days, or at the very least, hours. She's really good at teasing, especially about secrets. Either that, or I'm not very good under questioning. I have kept some secrets though, so I'm guessing that she's just good at interrogating.

My little brother, sister and I have been busy all day on Mathletics. It is mega fun. My sister and I have a similar skill level, at least on the easy levels, so we can play against each other. She's faster than I am, but that is partly due to the fact that she, on a desktop, has a number pad, while I, on a laptop, do not. It's also because I'm missing the enter button on my keyboard. As a result, she wins more than I do, but I have a better accuracy, so we are still pretty evenly matched.
We have to go really soon, so I'll have to stop writing. About...now!

Hiccups

I have had hiccups on and off today, and I have decided that it is incredibly annoying to have hiccups and a cold at the same time! I really don't like having hiccups. It means I can't talk properly, I get teased by my brothers and sister, and there is no cure. It just goes on and on and on. I had hiccups last night as well, and I thought they were gone, but it seems they came back this morning.

The longest attack of hiccups in the world was 68 years! Charles Osborne, an American, had hiccups from 1922 to 1990. In India, they believe you get hiccups when someone close to you is thinking about you. That would be weird if it were true. Imagine people in love. Whenever one thought about the other, they would get hiccups! Really awkward!

February 15

We went square dancing last night, and it was so much fun! I didn't think I would like it, but I really did. Everyone was nice and friendly, and I picked up the steps without much difficulty.

Today, we visited Strathpine library. None of us had been there before, and it had a good selection of books. My sister, who hardly ever borrows anything, looked like she was borrowing 6 books, and I borrowed 16. I actually had to borrow some books on my older brother's card, because mine was too full, and as you can put 40 books on a card, that's quite a feat! For most people that is. I have my card full a lot, too often I sometimes think, because if I have my card full when we visit new libraries, I can't borrow anything, and that's really awful.

My little brother looks like following my older brother's tradition of computer games. They both seem to like the same ones, and are both pretty good at it.

Sometimes I think I should only post when I actually have something to say, but then I don't think I'd ever actually post. Not much really big and exciting happens to me, like flying to the moon. That would be really neat! I don't think I'd like it though. Who would want to eat out of a tube, even if it does mean you get to go to outer space? It would still be awful!

My sister is playing the keyboard. She doesn't seem to have lyrics to any of her new songs. She doesn't sing along. Maybe she's just to busy concentrating to sing, as these are new songs.

I have to stop now, or I'll never be able to read all my new books this afternoon!

February 14 (Valentine's Day)

Firstly, Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all enjoy/ed it.

Wouldn't you love to be a tech whiz, and be able to hack computers and do all sorts of stuff like that? I don't think I ever will be, but I think it would be so cool. One day I want to be able to design websites, but that, though really cool, isn't quite tech whiz level.

My sister is on the keyboard. She is not playing carols, but actually seems to playing something really gloomy. I don't know it. It sounds really nice though.

My little brother is a maniac in training. He's on Mathletics, and talking about himself in the third person, narrating his competitions. It is so funny! He's got the whole crowd, aka himself with different voices, cheering him on. With support like that, how could he lose?

I didn't get any Valentines today, and I couldn't even wear red or pink, because it's my policy to always wear a blue polo shirt on Tuesdays. Tuesdays we volunteer at the library, so I like to wear polo shirts then, and blue is my favorite.

We'll have to sell some of our baby guinea pigs soon. Truth, Salvation and Gideon are almost old enough, and by Friday they will be. I'm pretty sure they will be sold next Monday. Even though they will soon be gone, at least we will have the rest of the babies, until they too have to be sold.

Monday, 13 February 2012

February 13

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. What am I going to do? Probably wear red or pink, and leave it at that. I don't know what else I would do.

Yesterday was incredibly hot and muggy, today was hot, yet now it is storming. Why can't the weather make sense, and do one thing at a time? It's uncomfortable feeding the guinea pigs in the rain. My guinea pigs are the furthest away, so I have to spend the most time in the rain.

We've been out all day, a lot of it because of my sister. She has both singing lessons and keyboard lessons, and is good at both. It takes up a lot of time though.

The other big reason we were out today is because it is our grandpa's birthday, so we took the hour long drive up the coast to say Happy Birthday, and bring a cake. The cake was delicious!

One thing I didn't mention over the weekend is that my brother's have switched bunks! My little brother now sleeps on the top bunk, and my older brother has the bottom bunk. It made sense, because my older brother stays up later, and now he doesn't have to climb the ladder and possibly wake up my little brother.

I was reading about Brother Andrew today, a guy who smuggled Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Some of the stuff he did was amazing. Like, in line at a checkpost one time, he noticed how thorough the search was. It usually took up to an hour, and could involve pulling all the stuffing out of the seats to make sure there was nothing hidden there. Yet somehow, he was through it in under 30 seconds, even with a pile of Bibles in open view in the passenger seat. God can do the most amazing things!

February 12

My little brother has been playing a platform game at my computer, and left the annoying music running. Even worse, I can't find a mute button!

Our new pastor was inducted today. There was a big lunch to celebrate, and it was delicious. He seems like a fun guy, but not a mushroom.

I can't really think of what else happened today, except that I read a lot of comic books, of all kinds. I got my brother interested in some Tintin comics, because we've seen the movie, and he wants to compare. It's funny and frustrating when he insists on saying that the comic, which was written way before the movie came out, is actually the one that has misrepresented the story! He's unbelievable. He knows which came first, but refuses to admit it.

Comics are so cool. In some of them, but usually more the TV show kind than the book kind, you could fall off of a building, and come away with nothing more than a black eye, and some bandages! It's even cooler when cartoon characters know that they are cartoons, and act accordingly. I mean that they do stupid stuff, and show off about how impossible it is.

February 10

Last night, because my older brother was away, we watched Little Women, and it is such a great story! Sad, but funny, and just amazing. It wasn't a really accurate depiction of the movie, but it was still a great movie. My little brother and sister have never read the book and they still really enjoyed it!

When you read a book, is it like you are just reading the words on a page, or is it that you are looking through a window into the bookland, or is it that you are actually walking around, living the book with the characters. One way of putting it is that a story is like a door. Some people read like they are looking at a shut door. Some people read like they are looking through an open door. I read like I'm through the door and walking around. I don't know anyone else who reads like that. I know a few that read like looking through the door, but no one who goes through the door. Then again, I haven't asked many people. My little brother might by a walk through the door person if he read more, and read longer books with more in them, but he doesn't, so I can't tell yet. I'm hopeful.

I have not actually read any fiction yet today. I've been really busy with schoolwork, especially Maths. Maths is one of my most disliked subjects. It can be interesting, and some bits are awesome fun, but some bits are just so long and boring. Still, it's not too bad, just boring.

Have you heard the song Reality by Newsboys? One of my favorite lines is "Can you find a better photo for the milk carton backs?". It's awesome.

Thursday, 9 February 2012

February 9

I can hear a lot of little "hup" sounds from my little brother's computer game. He's playing Light Temple, and seems to be going well. It's meant to be a two player game, but he's doing well by himself.

Do you ever feel really guilty when a book series you really like, but only borrow at the library, never buy, stops production due to lack of sales?  That definitely makes me feel guilty. I always think that if I had bought one of the books, they wouldn't be going out of buisness, as if 1 book could change everything. As a general thing, it's writing a book that changes everything, not buying it. Last Sunday, I read online that the Hardy Boys: Undercover Brothers, will not be continuing. I really like those books, but I don't own any. Now I wish I did. Hardy Boys are awesome!

We redesigned our lounge room today. My sister, little brother and I moved around our two blue lounges, and now the whole room looks entirely different. Much more open and inviting.

Currently, it is really loud here. My sister is playing on the keyboard, I'm playing Third Day on iTunes, and my little brother has music that comes with his game. Still, my mother is reading serenely, like there is not a sound in the whole house. I'm not sure I could do that. My sister and I are both compulsive singers. If we know the song that is playing, we pretty much have to sing along, unless we are concentrating wholeheartedly on something else, like I am right now. I can't touch type, so I need to be looking at my fingers while I type. I'm pretty fast, which just makes it harder to keep up with what I'm typing.

This is post 101, which is still pretty cool. I really love palindromes like that. There are also palindromes like A Fool, A Tool, A Pool; LOOPALOOTALOOFA! Even though it doesn't make much sense, this one is funny! There are more palindromes here.

Tomorrow is our first time this year at our church youth group. I can't wait!

February 8

Post 100! This is my 100th post! And the weather is celebrating by being the wettest weather for all of this week. Yippee, just how I wanted to celebrate my 100th post.

Mathletics is really fun. My brothers and I are really enjoying it, and being able to play against each other in math competitions. That's really cool. I like chance, data, and graphing. Those are my favorite maths subjects, along with algebra.

I cannot think of any way to celebrate my 100th post, except this

100th POST!!!

Tuesday, 7 February 2012

February 7

This is post 99, so tomorrow will be the big 100 post mark! I still don't know what to do about that. I really need a good idea, or even 4 ideas, or 8, or 11. I don't care how many, but anything from 1 up would be great!

This afternoon, my little brother got a copy of Persuasion, which we are currently reading as a group. This copy is all his, not borrowed from a library. He thinks it is fantastic! He's actually really funny about it, looking at it and talking about it all the way home. This, from the boy that has said that he hates reading! It's hilarious!

My sister is on the keyboard. I don't know what she is playing, but she seems to be doing well.

Last night, my sister and I were talking about Sense and Sensibility, specifically, what if Willoughby had never gotten involved with Eliza? Marianne would have married him, and thrown the entire story out of line. We decided that Edward would have married Lucy Steele, and either have stayed in town, or gone to live at the Norland Parsonage. Elinor would have married Colonel Brandon, and been reasonably happy. Robert would have married Miss Morton, with her thirty thousand pounds, and be even more doted on by his mother. It would still be a reasonably happy ending, but not nearly as tragic, or romantic.

This afternoon, we went to the library, and I got more books. My book stack has not reached the curtain rod, as it had for a while, but it is about halfway.

February 6

This is post No. 98, so the 100 mark is getting ever closer. I don't know what to do to mark the special occasion. Any ideas?

I was reading Mansfield Park last week, and I was thinking that Fanny Price is a bit like Cinderella. Not as important as her cousins, cast down by them, not going to balls. I also think that if Fanny Price were Cinderella, (spoiler alert), then Henry Crawford, not Edmund, would be Prince Charming, even though she loves Edmund. Henry Crawford is undeniably charming, both the "stepsisters" want him, he's rich, and altogether better qualified for the role of Prince Charming. Obviously, the "stepsisters" mother wouldn't be the stepmother. Aunt Norris is much better for the role. Despising Fanny, loving the Miss Bertrams, wanting Maria to marry well, though I suppose my analogy is a little inconsistent, as the one that Aunt Norris wants her to marry is not "Prince Charming", but I can suppose that Mr Rushworth is a King of somewhere else. Does anyone agree that it is a lot like Cinderella?

Let's see, what else can I say? I'm a little lost one what to write about. Nothing much interesting seems to be happening. We didn't do anything especially interesting either this morning or last night, so I don't know what I can say. I read a lot, but that's not unusual. My sister had her first singing lesson, and her first keyboard lesson of the term. She's practicing the keyboard now. Finally, we have something other than Christmas carols to listen to. She's playing something brand new, that I've never heard before.

Something that I haven't mentioned so far, is that last Friday we went to GoMA, the Gallery of Modern Art,  and the Queensland Art Gallery. We saw a few of the exhibits, and they were pretty cool. I really liked some of the stuff in the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. I've posted a picture of one of the displays below. This one was a bit creepy. The eyes in the middle of the flowers are weird.

February 5

We went to Dreamworld yesterday, and it was so cool! I went to just Dreamworld 3 and a half years ago with my dad, and my sibling have never been before, so it was really awesome! We just went on a few smaller rides, not any of the hugely exciting ones, because my little brother doesn't like scary rides, but it was still fun. We enjoyed the water rides a lot, even though some were lame, like the Thunder River Rapids.

I read a few really good books this weekend, as well as 2 really awful ones. I read The Considine Curse on Friday, and it was awful! Definitely not what I like. It had werewolves, and they did the most gruesome things. The other one I read was called The Orphan of Awkward Falls. It wasn't as bad, but still not my type of book. Too weird.

My sister is back on Virtual Villagers. She's liking looking at all the villagers frozen mid-movement. Now she's un-paused the game, and is playing with them. I can hear the sounds the little village kids are making.

February 2

I've got another follower, Wayne. Thank you! It is so cool to see another person following my blog.

Last night, my brother inscribed his initials in soap too. Unfortunately, he chose the soap that we are currently using, and therefore his initials have worn put already.

Isn't it annoying when days are hot without being sunny? I love a hot sunny day, or a cool cloudy day, but a hot cloudy day is just frustrating. It doesn't seem sunny enough to put a fan on, but it's too hot to get by without one. Fortunately, there is a nice breeze blowing through the doors most of the day.

For once, my sister has disappeared, but my older brother is right nearby. I think my sister is in our room, maybe with headphones in, listening to music. My brother is in the backyard, checking for damages after my little brother was in the backyard with a soundtrack of smashing sounds. A little bit alarming.

It's a quarter past two right now, at least in this part of the world. I don't know what everyone else is doing, but they are probably at school. This is part of my schoolwork. Lucky me!

I can't post tomorrow, because we have to get up really early to get to the city, so my sister can get her braces checked. There appears to be a problem with them. After that, we stay in the city for the whole afternoon, because we're spending the weekend with our dad, who lives in the city. There isn't really a point in making the trip twice. My older brother will be in the city all day anyway, to study. So no more posts til Sunday.

February 1

I just wrote January out of habit, but it is actually February. Hard to believe at the moment that it's only the second month of the year. It seems that Christmas most be at least 5 months ago, not 1 and a bit.

My little brother spent the last of his money on ordering us lunch today. Courtesy of him, we had delicious pizza and sides for lunch. Very generous of him to spend the last of his money on our lunch.

At the moment, my little brother is playing a physics game on the computer, Fantastic Contraption 2. It's really fun in the first edition, and though I've never played number 2, it looks like fun. My older brother is giving him advice while also working at his own computer. I can't say for sure where the majority of his attention is.

My sister is at the keyboard, playing Jingle Bells. Any sane person would know that February is waaaaaay too late to be playing Christmas carols.

My sister is jokingly considering keeping a bar of soap in her bag at all times, as an air freshener. I don't really know why, as her bag isn't really used much, and it never smells bad. I think she just likes the smell of the soap. She wants to engrave her initials into one of the bars. She actually did! She just showed it to me, and it actually has her initials on it!
